In this Post we will see How to install Maven on Mac OS. Maven is build tool primary for Java projects.

Prerequisites:

Extract/unzip the distribution archive file into /Applications/apache-maven-3.4.5by the following. Download maven and extract it; Add JAVAHOME and MAVENHOME in environment variable; Add maven path in environment variable; Verify Maven; 1) Download Maven. To install maven on windows, you need to download apache maven first. Download Maven latest Maven software from Download latest version of Maven. For example: apache-maven-3.1.1-bin.zip.

Maven is written in Java. Therefore, we need to have Java JDK installed on Mac OS. Java can be install from Oracle’s download website.

Maven Installation Steps:

Step 1 Download the Apache Maven bin.tar.gz file from http://maven.apache.org/download.cgi.
Extract/unzip the distribution archive file into /Applications/apache-maven-3.4.5 by the following command.

Environment:

Operating System: Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10

Maven version: v3.3.3

Java version: Java Development Kit JDK 7 or higher

Disk requirement: min 10Mb

You can download the latest build from Apache Maven website : https://maven.apache.org/download.cgi.

Setting up maven:

Download maven Binary tar.gz archive ( latest : http://mirror.nexcess.net/apache/maven/maven-3/3.3.3/binaries/apache-maven-3.3.3-bin.tar.gz)

Go to terminal app

Execute the following commands to set Java and Maven bin path :

Mac

export PATH=/Users/username/Setups/apache-maven-3.3.3/bin:$PATHJAVA_HOME=/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.8.0_25.jdk/Contents/Home/

Download Maven 3.3.9 For Mac

To check if maven is configured correctly run the following command: mvn -version

Note : If the path is not set correctly you may get errors when you run mvn - version

Note: Maven 3.3.3 requires java version 1.7 or above, if you use a version below it you may get the following error,
